Striker David Trezeguet has not completely ruled out the option of returning to the French national team. This despite remarks that claimed the opposite last week.

After the recent European Championships, Trezeguet told media that he would not be available for ‘les Bleus’ any longer.

The player, whose golden goal in the final against Italy earned France the European trophy in 2000, was not selected to represent the team in Austria and Switzerland this year.

“I don’t understand why Domenech gets to stay after such a tournament. Who gets selected is decided by politics,” Trezeguet told Italian press agency ANSA last week.

But in the Gazzetta dello Sport, the forward uses a different tone: “If things change, the door to the French national team can be opened again. When I entered the pitch of the Stade de France, I got a unique feeling inside.”
