The World Cups of 2018 and 2022 are likely to take place in a single country, according to FIFA president Joseph Blatter.

At a press conference in Asuncion, Paraguay, Blatter explained that “if FIFA receives bids from three or four individual countries, they will have our preference. Joint bids will then be rejected automatically”.

The chairman’s words particularly affect the imminent bids of Spain with Portugal and the Netherlands with Belgium.
