New York Red Bulls midfielder Juninho Pernambucano has been handed an additional one-match suspension by the MLS disciplinary committee.
The Brazilian was punished for kicking a ball at Sporting Kansas City goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen during their match on April 17th and initially given a suspension of one game and an undisclosed fine.
With Nielsen taking his time over a free-kick, Juninho flicked the ball and aimed a volley at the Dane’s chest.
The committee decided that Juninho’s actions amounted to “violent conduct that endangered the safety of his opponent.”
Juninho, who received a red card for his indiscretion, will miss the game against Toronto FC on April 27.
