Brazilian star Kaka says Barcelona ace Lionel Messi deserves to win the Ballon d’Or award this year.

Kaka won the award last year after winning the Champions League with AC Milan.

It is expected that the battle for the Ballon d’Or will be between Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

“Messi deserves the Ballon d’Or,” Kaka told Spanish newspaper Sport.

“He is a real superstar. Ronaldo would also be a valid choice, but I see Messi as my successor.

“I admire Lionel’s ability and ball control. He is one of those players who you always want to have in your team.”

The Ballon d’Or will be presented in December.

You can’t win the Ballon d’Or when you spend so much time on the ground appealing for fouls, and crying to referees. Hope Messi gets it, not Ronaldo

Although cristiano ronaldo is a very good player, no doubt about that. He has helped his club man utd win the premier league and the champions league double last season, kudos to him. But I still believe lionel messi is a better player and deserves the award. Mind you he is also instrumental to argentina’s victory in the international soccer event of the 2008 beijing olympics.

  3. STRIK3R CW on October 8th, 2008 17:41

Don’t get me wrong. I understand everyone’s gripe over Ronaldo and certainly Messi is a great selection, but bar none Cristiano Ronaldo is the best player out there and deserves the Ballon d’Or

  4. uwagbale titi on October 18th, 2008 16:42

i think cristiano ronaldo deserves the ballon d”or

  5. Taiwo micheal on October 20th, 2008 20:35

  9. Fowosere fowowe on October 26th, 2008 13:41

I know some idiot will say ronaldo is d best and he deserves it because he scored some stupid goals which he always score against small teams. But talk of messi he is such a wonderboy that has d GOD given talent of football and he always deliver when u need most. For me messi is d best and he deserves d “ballon de or”.

  10. Patrick on October 26th, 2008 19:27

He scored in the Champions League final against Chelsea, one of the biggest clubs in the world on club football’s grandest stage. Stupid goal? If Messi delivers when you need it most why did Barca finish 3rd last year? Sure Messi is an amazing player, and will probably go on to be in the top ten or even top five best of all time, but the award is given out on a yearly basis and is supposed to reflect the best player of the previous year, not who we think will be the best overall. That said, Ronaldo deserves the Ballon d’Or, and if anyone thinks I’m biased, I am an Arsenal fan, it doesn’t get any more unbiased than that.

  11. baka on October 27th, 2008 19:56

Everyone has his own opinion. I think that last season, Ronaldo was better than Messi.

  12. chigozie on October 29th, 2008 11:39

it’s only a blind person will say that c Ronald did not deserve the award.

  14. E. Makiss on November 1st, 2008 10:20

Messi is quite a football controller,a guy that football obey BUTremeber there is always a master in very thing under this world.that`s means that C.ronaldo is a star he deserves the award

  15. Nazir Alema on November 2nd, 2008 13:55

    C. Ronaldo, who served his club very well this year deserves the Ballon d’Or Awards but i doubt if he’s going to get it as far as discipline in football is concerned. For this, i’m convinced that the award will go to Lionel who was also impressive and disciplined this year for his club and country. Ronaldo did not do very well for his country this year. All these make doubt

  16. Thomas on November 2nd, 2008 23:52

They are both great players and probably the best going around at the moment. Messi or Ronanldo? I don’t think there will be too many complaints either way

  17. uche on November 7th, 2008 15:17

i think that c ronaldo deserves the award. because he is absolutry amazing last season

  18. Zecole on November 10th, 2008 10:22

I believe dat evry footballers are good, but there’s a best among,c ronaldo is a great player that as skills, and he won both champions and league 4 is club, but he doesn’t won any 4 is country.but lionel messi who won beijein olympic 4 is country bcoz doin sometin 4 country is more important than d club.I believe that lionel messi deserves d world footballer of d year not c ronaldo.thanks

  19. Seun on November 11th, 2008 12:08

Both player are playing good and professional football for there respective culbs, but going by there overall performance C.Ronaldo deserves the award than L.Messi.Inrespective of where they play for.

  20. okojie barnanas on November 12th, 2008 10:42

messi i strongly believe deserves the ballon than c Ronadon, who is only a good player of small team like west ham

  21. Amir on November 15th, 2008 21:26

MESSI DESERVES TO WIN.this season without messi help barcelona is no wear

  22. Raja Khongthaw on November 17th, 2008 11:06

I am an analyst and I should be fair: Why Messi this season?

1)Messi won olympic gold medal. All from first round till final–it is not easy.
    Ronaldo???????
    2) He gels well with the a)national team . Ronaldo for Portugal..euro?????
and b)club team too–both are almost same
    3) How many goals Messi scores for barca than Ronaldo???????

  23. Ara Serj Mark on November 17th, 2008 22:17

For us Messi is the best player on the planet. He deserved the award , there is no question that Messi is much much better than that crying Portugese.

  24. Jason on November 23rd, 2008 15:32

Undoubtably, Messi is an mazing player. Great with the ball and can come on the pitch at any time and uplift any team he plays for. whether it’s Barca or Argentina. He’s going to become one of the greatest if he stays in this kind of form and contnues to grow. Based on last year’s season Ronaldo is the most likely to win this. I hope he does. He was incredible for Man Utd. Maybe he hasn’t had quite the impact for country, but then again…How much did Kaka do for Brazil the year he won the award? Winning the Champion’s League, Premier League and scoring 42 goals on the way should guarantee CR with the award. He’s grown up a lot more from the flopping player he first was. He stays on his feet a lot more and has the goals to prove it. C Ronaldo…greatest player as of right now!

  25. Blaze FUTO on November 23rd, 2008 22:42

Who says Ronaldo is not good after having seen his last season escapade in premiership and champions league. C “WAHALA” deserves the award this year, Messi can get it some other time. watchers dont be biased, try and become analysts.

  26. pressrelease420 on November 26th, 2008 1:15

why are so many people crying for Ronaldo to win because he scored 42 goals in all competitions??? Ruud van Nistelrooy scored 45 in 2002-3 but where was he on the Ballon d’Or voting? Tied for thirteenth…

  27. samira on November 30th, 2008 7:37

yess..i think that messi should get the award..he is one of the best players i must say..hes great with the ball and he knows how to play well..whats wrong with him being picked??

  28. jams on December 2nd, 2008 12:09

CR7 won the Ballon D’or. He was voted number 1 by 77 sports journalists, not by biased, stupid, ridiculous people like you whose judgements are influenced by jealousy or anything of the sort.
I agree messi is the best player in the world, but ronaldo fully deserves the award because of his consistency and what he achieved last season and as far as i know, this is what is taken into consideration when choosing the Ballon D’or and not who is the best player else messi should have won it in 2007 also and Ronaldinho in 2004 and 2006 apart from 2005….

Спасибочки, что просветили, и, главное, как раз вовремя. Подумать только, пять лет уже в инете, но про это первый раз слышу.

  31. mahesh on May 25th, 2009 16:28

With due respect to Ronaldo( but very little reverence for his conduct in the field) almost all soccer lovers through the globe, leaving not a single thread of doubt , choose Messi for the award. He is an indommitable footballer with charismatic skill and thus will reign the most popular game for about a half decade, if not for a decade.
It won’t be hyperbolic to claim that he is the only hope for Argentina to lift The FIFIA World Cup, after a very long time since 1986, heralding a new era of Argentine football, succeeding Great Maradona.

Спасибо за занимательную точку зрения. Я с ней не совсем согласен, но она имеет право быть.

Got something to say?
