Real Madrid star Kaka could be sidelined for two months if it is decided that surgery is needed to repair an injured meniscus in his left knee, the Spanish giants announced on their website Thursday.

Real said on their website www.realmadrid.com the Brazilian midfielder left their US training camp in Los Angeles to undergo examinations with a view to an eventual operation to be carried out in Belgium.

“After medical exams and several further tests we suspect that he is suffering from a lesion in his meniscus which may require keyhole surgery,” Real said in the statement.

Real said, however, the groin strain from which Kaka has been suffering, and which hampered his first season with the team, had shown “clear signs of improvement”.

Real, coached by Jose Mourinho, are holding a pre-season camp in the United States and won a first friendly there last week 3-2 against Las Aguilas del America de Mexico.
