Lennon admits Premier League ambitions

Celtic manager Neil Lennon has revealed he hopes to manage in the Premier League at some point in his career.

Earlier this month Lennon led the Hoops into the last 16 of the Champions League, recording a historic victory over Barcelona at Parkhead as they finished second in their group.

“I’m ambitious and maybe one day, if I’m still good enough, a Premier League team might shine the eyes at me and it would be something to consider,” he said.

“I’m very happy here at the minute but who knows? This time last year I was thinking about resigning, because we were 3-0 down at half-time to Kilmarnock and 15 points behind Rangers.

“It’s funny how football changes so quickly so I’m aware it can change quickly again.

“I love what I do here and have a great feeling and affinity with the fans and the club. But you never know where football takes you.”

The former Northern Ireland international midfielder completed four seasons in the Premier League with Leicester City before following manager Martin O’Neill to Parkhead, where he won five Scottish Premier League titles and reached the final of the UEFA Cup, before returning as a coach in 2008.

He took over as caretaker manager in March 2010 and saw his side finish second in the league behind Rangers for two seasons running, but won the title last term as their Old Firm rivals went into administration.
