Jeremain Lens believes Netherlands are well on their way to the World Cup finals after a 4-1 win over Romania on Tuesday.

The Dutch are one of only two European teams who have won all their qualifiers so far as they top Group D with 12 points from four games, and the attacker has highlighted the importance of the victory in Bucharest.

“The most important thing is that we won the match 4-1. We are not there just yet. However, we have taken a big step toward qualification for the World Cup,” Lens said.

The PSV attacker opened the scoring early on with a fine header from outside the area and was understandably pleased with his goal for Louis Van Gaal’s side.

“The ball landed perfectly on my head and I could head it home nicely. It was very nice to score the opener as Romania were putting the pressure on us,” he said.

Netherlands resume qualification action in February 2013 when they host Andorra and Romania.
