A third consecutive win has lifted Montpellier to within a point of the European places, as they disposed of Rennes 2-0 on Friday.

It took them 75 minutes but the home side eventually took the lead when centre-back Hilton fired home at the Stade de la Mosson, before substitute Souleymane Camara made sure of the points with a strike 11 minutes later.

It was Montpellier’s third straight clean sheet as well, since their 4-1 drubbing away to Saint-Etienne.

It continued a mediocre period for Rennes, who have won just one of their past six, leaving Frederic Antonetti’s men four points behind the top four in seventh.

Rene Girard’s side, however, are looking skywards, level with fifth-placed Saint-Etienne and well within reach of Europe.
