Liverpool have announced that Steven Gerrard will receive a testimonial match this summer, with all proceeds going to charity.
The Merseyside club will face current Greek champions Olympiakos at Anfield on August 3. The Steven Gerrard Foundation is set to be the main beneficiary.
Liverpool’s captain famously scored a last-gasp screamer against the Greek outfit in a 2004 UEFA Champions League tie, with the English side going on to lift the trophy that season.
“I am delighted to be honoured by Liverpool FC with a testimonial match and particularly thrilled that Olympiakos have accepted my invitation to play the fixture,” Gerrard said.
“Last time we met proved to be such a memorable game both for me personally and Liverpool Football Club.
“I am also especially grateful that Olympiakos have truly embraced the aim of this match and chosen to donate their fee to charity.
“I am looking forward to what I know will be a fantastic game and a wonderful occasion.”
