The father of PSV Eindhoven’s Dries Mertens has revealed that the winger is close to joining Napoli.
The Belgium international has been strongly linked with a move to the Serie A club following another impressive campaign at the Philips Stadion.
The 26-year-old has spent two years with the Eredvisie club but now looks set to secure a move to Rafael Benitez’s side.
“He thinks he’ll be in Naples by the end of next week,” father Herman Mertens told Niewsblad.
“It’s a unique opportunity for him.
“His girlfriend was hoping for a transfer to London, but then Napoli arrived. When an offer from an important club like that is made then you can’t say no.”
Mertens has made 88 appearances in two seasons for PSV, scoring 45 goals.
