Fiorentina manager Vincenzo Montella has revealed that he plans to sign another midfielder before the summer transfer window closes.
Viola enjoyed a winning start to the Serie A campaign as they defeated Catania 2-1, with David Pizarro scoring the winner after he was at fault for Catania’s equalizer.
And while the Chilean remains a key member of the side despite earlier expressing his desire to leave, Vincenzo Montella admits that he may have to sign a back-up for the 33-year-old.
“Maybe we need someone in other positions, a back-up for Pizarro, maybe,” Montella told reporters after the Catania game.
Viola have signed Massimo Ambrosini on a free transfer from AC Milan, but with Pizarro being used as a deep-lying playmaker, the Artemio Franchi outfit are in the market for the player of a similar profile.
Fiorentina have been linked with a move for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti, but chances are they will go for a cheaper alternative to the Italy international.
