Moyes wants competition for Howard

A report from the Daily Mail is suggesting that Everton will look to bring in another goalkeeper in the January transfer window to act as cover, or even challenge Tim Howard for his spot in the team.

Howard has not been in the best form for the Toffees and many were blaming him for the late equaliser conceded against Norwich City in the English Premier League last weekend.

David Moyes has admitted that he believes another keeper would help improve the form of the American as at the moment, his place in the team is not under much threat.

When asked if another shot-stopper would help Howard, Moyes said: “Yes, you need competition for every position and everybody has got to make sure they’re at the top of their game. We have to make sure we’re not continually making mistakes that lead to goals.”

Finding someone to act as serious competition to Howard could be tough though as a number of top flight keepers are sure to be happy playing first-team football and will not want to sit on the bench at Goodison Park.

Howard’s opposite number, John Ruddy, spent a number of years at Everton but played just 81 minutes of first-team football, which is why he ended up moving to Norwich on a permanent basis.

It is certainly a story to keep an eye on.
