No regrets for Flores over Watford departure

Quique Sanchez Flores thanked Watford for the opportunity to manage the club following his final game in charge, a 2-2 home draw with Sunderland.

The Spaniard was appointed at the start of the season following Watford’s promotion from the Championship and has overseen an impressive Premier League campaign.

Sunday’s draw, secured thanks to Troy Deeney’s penalty, saw Watford finish 13th, but despite their comfortable league position it was announced on Friday that Flores would not remain next season.

Asked if he had any regrets over the nature of his departure, Flores responded: “No, no, no, no.

“The decision is done and I can think about new places and new teams. This moment is a little bit sensitive after the reception of the Watford fans.

“The season in terms of results was really good, I enjoyed the experience, and it’s very important for Watford and gives them a base for the future. 

“We have a very competitive team and of course we are completely happy and we completed the process of establishing ourselves in the Premier League.

“We had the prize of the [FA Cup] semi-final so we have a lot of reasons to think the season was really, really good.

“I loved the opportunity to come here, this is the first time I’ve been here so I’m completely happy and I say thank you for the opportunity.

“I work with intensity and I’m grateful for the attitude of the players and the fans.”
