Pardew: We should try emulate Liverpool

Newcastle boss Alan Pardew believes his side should aim to emulate Liverpool next season.

Pardew has seen his team struggle this season, finishing 16th with just two away wins throughout the campaign, and has looked to Brendan Rodgers’ side as an ideal target.

Liverpool finished seventh in the table, beating Newcastle 6-0 at St James Park recently, and Pardew told The Chronicle that, were it not for injuries, his side would have been able to challenge the Merseyside outfit.
“We need to strengthen. Even with our best team out I think we would have finished below Liverpool,” Pardew said.

“And we want to threaten them – so we need to improve.”

It’s been a difficult season for Newcastle who, despite reaching the Europa League quarter-finals, only secured their Premier League status with a game left of 2012-13.
“It is a difficult league. We could have finished in the top 11,” Pardew continued.
“If you’d have said that at the start of the season, and getting to the last eight of the Europa League, you’d have said it was OK.
“It is just the way we got there was unsavoury, and some of the performances.”
