Piszczek desperate to play Champions League final

Borussia Dortmund defender Lukasz Piszczek will delay hip surgery until after the Champions League final on May 25.

The German side booked their place at the Wembley showpiece with a 4-3 aggregate victory over Real Madrid and the Poland international will ensure he is available for selection by going under the knife once the fixture is out of the way.

Piszczek is not concerned at playing through the pain and is more concerned with keeping his place in Jurgen Klopp’s side ahead of the final.

He said: “Now I hope that I will be fit enough to play in the final and at least remain [as fit] as I am currently. What then happens after the final, I really do not know, but it will probably be surgery.

“In these games you have so much adrenaline in itself, that it is enough to numb the pain.

“It is definitely hard to get out of bed the next day. But I feel good on the field and our physiotherapists have also done everything that they could to help me.”

Piszczek has had a busy season, playing 50 games in total for both Dortmund and Poland, in which he has created 13 goals for his team-mates and netted four of his own.
