On Saturday afternoon, it will be master vs apprentice as David Wagner’s revitalised Huddersfield side will be looking to push on from last weekend’s dramatic win over Manchester United, this weekend The Terriers travel to Merseyside, facing off against a Liverpool side who will be looking to kickstart their season and pick up their first win of the month in the Premier League.

Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side will be desperately hoping to get their season back on track, currently sat ninth in the Premier League table, Liverpool have failed to pick up a win in the league since the end of September and have not picked up all three points in their last three attempts. Last weekend epitomised The Reds’ struggles as they were thrashed 4-1 away at Tottenham, bringing their current record to just two wins in their last 7 matches in all competitions.

Although they might be sat at the middle of the table, Jurgen Klopp will know that his Liverpool side are still only three points adrift of the top four and have a string of winnable matchups for the rest of October, after facing Huddersfield this weekend, Liverpool will be facing off with West Ham and Southampton.

In terms of their form at Anfield, despite a number of clear defensive issues, Liverpool have enjoyed a fine run of form when playing in front of their home support. With their stand out score coming in a 4-0 victory over Arsenal in August, The Reds are still unbeaten when playing at Anfield and Klopp’s side have only conceded one goal at home this year. Liverpool will also be feeling confident about keeping their home record intact this weekend, in five of their previous six meetings with Huddersfield, Liverpool have managed to keep a clean sheet.

Team News

For Saturday’s Premier League matchup, Jurgen Klopp will still be unable to call upon the services of a trio of longtime injury absentees. Liverpool will be without both midfielder Adam Lallana and winger Sadio Mane, both are believed to be sidelined until the middle of November. The Reds will, however, be hoping that Dutch international Gini Wijnaldum is able to play some part as the central midfielder is trying to overcome a small knock.

There does appear to be one obvious absence for Saturday’s game, after being taken off after only 30 minutes against Tottenham, Dejan Lovern looks set for a place on the bench after his nightmare performance against Spurs last weekend. It also looks like Jurgen Klopp might be looking for a change of goalkeepers, Loris Karius could make his first Premier League appearance of the season.

Huddersfield

For Huddersfield on the other hand, it really has been a fairytale week for the newly promoted side. Last time out, Huddersfield picked up a famous three points as The Terriers were able to come away 2-1 winners against Manchester United and simultaneously putting an end to their six-match winless streak.

Remarkably, the Premier League new boys are sat only two spots behind Liverpool in 11th position. Although they might have been on the right end of a giant slaying last weekend, David Wagner’s side will be entering the contest as huge underdogs and their form away from home still leaves allot to the imagination.

After picking up five points from their first three games in the Premier League, Huddersfield have begun to feel the effects of playing among England’s elite. Since picking up a 3-0 win away at Crystal Palace on the opening game of the season, Huddersfield have failed to secure another victory on the road and have lost against West Ham, Swansea, Tottenham and Crystal Palace in the EFL third round.

Team News

Huddersfield fans will be happy to hear that forward Collin Quaner is back in contention for Saturday’s trip to Anfield, after being sidelined with a calf injury for the past five weeks, Quaner looks set to be named in Wagner’s side.

Fellow forward Elis Kachunge has also recovered from a back problem he picked up in last weekend’s victory over Manchester United, he too looks set for a place in Huddersfield’s squad. The Terriers will have to do without Kasey Palmer, Michael Hefele and Jon Gorenc Stankovic though, all three are still out with injuries.

Key Factors to Consider

  • Huddersfield are winless in all competitions versus Liverpool in 10 matches (D3 L7), a run stretching back to 1960
  • Liverpool have lost only one of their last 42 Premier League home games against newly-promoted sides
  • Mohamed Salah has scored five goals in his first nine Premier League appearances for Liverpool, level with Dirk Kuyt (5) and only fewer than Robbie Fowler at this stage of his Liverpool career in the competition (6)
  • Liverpool have allowed their opponents to score from 20 percent of their total shots in the Premier League this season (16 of 79); more than any other team
  • Huddersfield have the chance to become only the third newly promoted side to defeat both Liverpool and Manchester United in the same season

Conclusion

To add to Huddersfield’s problems on the road this season, they have failed to find the back of the net in three of their four away games, given the fact that Liverpool have only conceded one goal at home so far this season, Liverpool to win looks like the most logical bet here.

Verdict: Liverpool win

Best Odds: 1/4
