Premier League preview: Swansea v QPR

Swansea City and Queens Park Rangers meet in a vital English Premier League clash between two sides in the bottom half of the table.

Brendan Rodgers’ Swansea have impressed in patches this campaign, but their struggles away from home see them sitting 14th.

They will be glad to host a struggling QPR on Tuesday, with Neil Warnock’s team failing to impress after a decent start to the season.

In their last five outings, Warnock’s side have collected just one point, and the meeting with Swansea is important ahead of a trip to Arsenal.

With their record on the road the worst in the league, Swansea have been forced to secure points at home – and they have done just that with only one of their defeats coming at Liberty Stadium.

Striker Danny Graham has been a key throughout the campaign, netting five goals.

Swansea have failed to net in their past two games – a draw at Newcastle and a loss against Everton at Goodison Park – making Graham and Mark Gower (five assists) important in the attacking third.

Goalkeeper Michel Vorm has received plenty of praise for his performances this season.

The Dutchman is considered one of the Premier League’s in-form shot-stoppers, and his saves, including denying Fulham’s Clint Dempsey from the penalty spot when Swansea last played at home in a 2-0 win on December 10, have been a key.

Vorm will need to be wary of the threat posed by Queens Park Rangers forward Heidar Helguson.

The Iceland international has been one of QPR’s few threats this campaign, scoring seven of their 17 league goals.

When the teams met in the Championship last season, QPR ran out 4-0 winners at home, while the clash in Wales finished 0-0.

Swansea defender Neil Taylor is in a race against time to be fit for the clash because of a knee injury, while winger Nathan Dyer (foot) is a chance to return.

Alan Tate remains a couple of months away after breaking his leg in August, while Ferrie Bodde’s knee issues continue to trouble him.

Meanwhile, QPR remain without defender Anton Ferdinand, Rob Hulse is continuing his rehabilitation from a knee injury, while Kieron Dyer will miss the rest of the season.
