Reading have announced that six players will not be offered new deals following their relegation to the Championship.
Noel Hunt, Ian Harte, Nicky Shorey, Simon Church, Jay Tabb and Joseph Mills, who made a combined total of 811 appearances for the club, have all been released as free agents.
But it has been revealed that Nick Arnold, Shane Griffin, Matt Partridge, Lawson D’Ath and goalkeepers Stuart Taylor and Jonathan Henly remain in talks over new deals.
Defender Alex Pearce is also out of contract but Reading director of football Nick Hammond has underlined his eagerness to retain the reported Liverpool target.
“We have been speaking to him with regards to his contract throughout the season,” he told the club’s official website.
“Unfortunately, up until this point we have not managed to find a deal which is mutually acceptable to both parties.
“I am keen, however, now the season has finished, to have a further conversation with Alex and his representatives to understand his thoughts and give him the club’s final position.”
Reading were relegated from the Premier League in 19th place, having gained just 28 points from 38 matches.
