Sevilla desperate to keep hold of Rakitic

Spanish newspaper Estadio Deportivo understands that Sevilla are doing everything in their power to hold on to star midfielder Ivan Rakitic.

Los Rojiblancos have no choice but to sell several star players in the summer in order to balance the books and the Croatian midfielder was tipped to be one of the first footballers to leave Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

Nevertheless, club officials see the midfielder as an integral part of their long-term project and aim to rebuild the team around him.

With Alvaro Negredo and Federico Fazio set to leave in the summer, Sevilla might not be forced to sell Rakitic as well.

The player himself feels settled in Seville, and has made it clear that his desire is to remain at the club for as long as possible.

The 25-year-old has been one of team’s star performers this term, scoring 7 goals and producing 8 assists in 28 La Liga matches.
