Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone expects an intense battle when his side travel to Athletic Bilbao in La Liga on Sunday.
Simeone’s men have had a fantastic season so far and sit second in the table – seven points above fierce rivals Real Madrid.
In contrast Athletic Bilbao – who Atletico defeated 3-0 in last season’s Europa League final – have had a poor start and lie just four points above the drop zone, but Simeone is convinced they are a ‘dangerous opponent’.
“I do not want to waste my time thinking about the rivalry. I know how (Bilbao) play and having analysed their performances I can be sure that they are a dangerous opponent,” Simeone said.
“They have got important players and they’re playing at home, so they will be one of the most difficult teams we have had in recent matches, for their intensity and because the other day against Betis they demonstrated they could win as they did last Sunday.
“With all of this together I expect the best Athletic Bilbao, as always, and we have to be focused on them to try to solve the situation in the best way.”
