Southampton keen to keep Clyne

The Mirror understands that Southampton will make a desperate attempt to secure the services of Nathaniel Clyne, with a number of the Premier League’s elite monitoring the full-back’s situation closely.

The 24 year old has been one of the Saints’ stand out players over the past few seasons, with his form this campaign seeing him gain international recognition.

He was handed his England debut by manager Roy Hodgson in a 3-1 friendly win over Scotland back in November, winning a further three caps since while at club level he has played thirty-five times so far this season, scoring three goals.

Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool, who all have issues at right-back, have all been linked with a move for the former Crystal Palace man, who is about to move into the final twelve months of his current deal.

Southampton lost to Everton at the weekend to all but end their hopes of finishing in the top four, and the South Coast club are now priced at 20/1 to end the campaign in the Champions League qualification places.
