Universitario conceded their first goal of the Peruvian Primera Division’s Clausura phase, as they were crushed 3-0 by Sporting Cristal.

The hosts in Lima led after 20 minutes when Carlos Lobaton netted a spot-kick, before second-half goals to Irven Avila and Maximiliano Nunez sealed the points for Cristal, who finished the game with 10 men.

Daniel Ahmed’s side moved level with Universitario on six points in the standings, with both sides winning two of three matches.

Uruguayan midfielder Jorge Cazulo attempted to flick on a ball inside the area, but it was blocked by a raised arm from Josimar Vargas – and the referee pointed to the spot.

Lobaton duly converted with a chipped effort straight down the middle of the goal, with Universitario goalkeeper Jose Carvallo stranded after diving to his left.

Six minutes after half-time, Avila got in behind the last Universitario defender, rounded Carvallo and tapped in to an empty net to double Cristal’s lead.

Victor Yotun was sent off with 20 minutes to play after picking up two yellow cards in an 11-minute period, but the hosts managed to score again as Nunez’s brilliant individual effort capped a professional performance from the capital club.
