Terry not concerned by lack of contract talks

Chelsea captain John terry insists he is not bothered by a lack of talks over extending his contract at Stamford Bridge.

The defender has found regular playing time tough to come by under Rafael Benitez this season and fellow veteran Frank Lampard looks set to depart the club when his deal runs out this summer.

“People have to realise that I’ve got a year left at Chelsea after this,” Terry told The London Evening Standard.

“People have spoken about no new contract and this kind of thing but it’s not even on the agenda at the moment.

“They may sit down with me once the season has finished and we’ll start talking then. Whether it’s a yes or a no I’ll continue to give my very best until my contract finishes.”

Terry’s injury problems, allied with the club’s busy fixture list, have delayed talks on a future deal but he has insisted he is now ready to play whenever necessary.

“I have had to focus, dig deep and do a lot of sessions on my own in the gym which was tough and new to me because it’s the first long injury that I’ve had,” Terry added.

“But I’m fit and I’m well now and that’s the main thing.

“I will continue to do everything I can, whether I play or don’t play, to move this football club in the direction that we want to be.”
