Tottenham are hoping to win the race for Ajax starlet Christian Eriksen, London Evening Standard has learned.
The English newspaper understands that the Dutch midfielder will be allowed to leave Amsterdam in the summer transfer window, with English Premier League his most likely destination.
According to the club source, Liverpool and Tottenham are currently leading the race for the highly rated midfielder.
Spurs are hoping the promise of Champions League football next season will help them win the chase with their Premier League rivals, but they are also banking on Eriksen’s former teammate Jan Vertonghen to persuade the player that his future lies at White Hart Lane.
The Belgian international seems to have made the right choice when opting to sign for Tottenham rather than Arsenal last summer, and he Spurs are hoping Eriksen will choose them as well.
The 21-year-old has been playing some great football this season, scoring 7 goals and setting up another 8 in 24 Eredivisie appearances.
