Townsend linked with Palace switch

The Telegraph understand that Newcastle United’s Andros Townsend could be set for an immediate return to the Premier League, with Crystal Palace eyeing a move for the winger.

The twenty-four year old moved to St James’ Park in January but was unable to help the club avoid relegation to the Championship.

He was then left out of Roy Hodgson’s final squad for Euro 2016 having been included as part of his initial selection of twenty-six, though that blow could be softened should he secure a quick return to the top flight.

Since signing from Tottenham Hotspur earlier this year, Townsend racked up thirteen appearances, scoring four goals whilst during his time at White Hart Lane, he turned out ninety-three times in all competitions though he has spent much of his career out on loan.

He has been capped eleven times for England, scoring three times.
