(GSM) – FC Twente have won the first official trophy of the Dutch season, beating Ajax 1-0 to secure the Super Cup victory.

The match began with two sides trying to find the opening goal but Ajax’ had their ambitions dented early on as Eyong Enoh injured himself in the fourth minute and needed to be substituted.

And another four minutes later, a bad goal kick from Maarten Stekelenburg allowed Luuk de Jong to pick up and direct the ball past the international keeper for 1-0.

Shortly before the break, Ajax star Luis Suarez used both legs to tackle Cheikh Tiote, earning him a red card and a potential suspension for the next few league games.

The second half was nothing like the first with neither side creating much danger near the other team’s goal.

Twente succeed previous league champions AZ, who beat SC Heerenveen 5-1 to win last year’s Super Cup.
