Netherlands coach Bert van Marwijk says his side must guard against counter attacks in their first game of Euro 2012 against Denmark.

The Netherlands are heavy favourites to beat Denmark in the Group B clash on Saturday, but Van Marwijk believes their opponents could pose a threat on the break.

The 60-year-old insists his side must dominate the game and hold on to the ball against Morten Olsen’s men, and make sure they do not leave themselves open to counter attacks.

“The best way to hold onto the ball is to keep on moving,” the former Feyenoord and Borussia Dortmund coach told OnsOranje.

“That way you can prevent counter attacks, too. As long as you have the ball, the opponent cannot threaten you.

“When you lose the ball, you immediately have to win it back in the same place, this is the best way to avoid any counter attacks.”

The opening match of Group B between Netherlands and Denmark kicks-off in Kharkiv on Saturday.
