Chile suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Germany in the Confederations Cup final on Sunday night.

Joachim Loew’s men benefited from a first-half error by Marceo Diaz, who coughed up possession and allowed Timo Werner to set up Lars Stindl for an easy tap-in.

The Chile international Diaz was visibly distressed after the match and struggled to hold back emotions.

“In the past I had to suffer from personal and family reasons, but today I have to suffer for football reasons. I have nothing left but to give up”, the Chilean told after the match.
