Vidosic wants consistency from Brisbane

Brisbane Roar coach Rado Vidosic is optimistic his team can begin to string a series of A-League wins together.

The Roar camp was bolstered during the week with news that Thomas Broich’s red card against the Jets had been overturned, and that defender Jack Hingert had re-signed with the club.

Vidosic emphasised how crucial the German is to his side, who face Western Sydney Wanderers on Sunday.

“He’s played every game so far, so he’s a very important member of our team, and with him we’ve got a little bit of different flair that we can apply,” Vidosic said.

“It wasn’t really a red card, it was just one of those things where people make wrong decisions. But we are really pleased that he’s free to play.”

Vidosic was not overly concerned with Brisbane’s inability to reflect a dominant performance against Newcastle with more than just a penalty, despite several good chances being spurned.

“(Finishing) is one thing that you can never work enough on. Many games in world football finish 1-0 or 2-1, so there’s only two or three goals in it,” he said.

“I think the main thing is that we play well, that we keep the ball moving, that we are aggressive in our defending, and hopefully sooner or later we can start finishing our chances.

“The good thing is that we are creating a lot of chances and sooner or later we’re going to start putting them away and then the story will be completely different.”

The Brisbane coach says it is vital to start notching consecutive victories.

“It’s very important. I think we are still the big target for everyone. Everyone wants to beat Brisbane Roar, they all lift their games when they play against us, but now for the rest of the year it’s all in our hands,” Vidosic said.

“We know what we can do, it’s up to us to go out and perform and hopefully with a win on Sunday we can set a good platform for us for the rest of the season.”

Hingert, who turned 22 in September, also expressed a positive outlook after signing on for another three years at the Roar.

“I’m obviously really happy, it’s definitely a privilege for me to be involved with a club like this,” he said.

“I’m really happy with how I’ve progressed since I’ve been at the club last year and this year. I’m looking forward to the next three years and hopefully there will be bigger and better things to come for us.”

Asked about this weekend’s clash with the Wanderers, Hingert said he was expecting a challenge, but believes the Roar are good enough to see off their opponents.

“They’ve got a good group of players. They showed how hard they are to break when we played them at Suncorp last time,” he said.

“But when we’re on our game I think we can definitely beat anyone, and as long as we do what we set out to do we can get the three points.”
