Wenger: Chamakh to be the first summer signing

(GSM) – Arsene Wenger has revealed that he is expecting Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh to be Arsenal’s first signing of the summer on a free transfer.

Moroccan’s contract with Bordeaux is due to expire next month, with a long been expected to move to Emirates Stadium on a Bosman deal.

Wenger had already revealed prior to the weekend that a deal for the 26-year-old is close to completion as he looks to turn Arsenal into a team capable of sustaining a Premier League title assault next season.

And, speaking after the 4-0 final day win over Fulham, Wenger confirmed that he is waiting to finalise the capture of Chamakh.

“He could be the first one, yes,” Wenger told Sky Sports.

“We have to finalise some papers and some of the medical. It’s not done yet, but it is very close.”
