Who Will Come Out On Top Of The EPL After Xmas

The early title contenders for winning the 2017/18 Premier League title with the bookies are Manchester City, Spurs and Manchester United. City are the favorites and it is no surprise why as they have played breathtaking stuff so far and are five points clear at the top of the EPL. Before United was humiliated by Huddersfield the top bookmakers such as BetVictor.com had them as second favorites but many have now promoted Tottenham after their scintillating displace against Liverpool. The Xmas period is going to be a vital time and the team that is top at the turn of the year will be well positioned to be crowned champions at the end of the campaign. Below I look at the top three favorites and the matches they have over the Christmas period.

Manchester City

During December Man City have to face both title contenders Spurs and arch-rivals United. These will be pivotal matches and will have an impact on who finishes top. If they can claim all six points from these two games they will be extremely well positions and it will be likely they will finish top at Xmas if they do it.

Over the busy Xmas period they have to face; Bournemouth at home on the 23rd, Newcastle away on boxing day and Crystal Palace on new year’s eve. These are all matches against teams they should beat comfortably if they perform at their best.

Tottenham Hotspur

Spurs arguably have the easiest Xmas fixture list due to the fact that they are playing two of their matches at home. Wembley does not quite feel home yet for the lillywhites though and the recent 2-3 loss to West Ham in the cup is a testament to that. They will get their chance to get revenge as they face the Hammers on new year’s eve and it should be a fantastic derby to watch before getting plastered to bring in 2018. The other two fixture they have are Burnley away on Xmas eve and Southampton at home on boxing day.

Manchester United

Spurs and Man United’s Xmas fixture list is almost identical as they both face Burnley and Southampton. The only difference is that the Red Devils will be facing Leicester City on Christmas Eve and not the Hammers. The team that holds their nerve and manages to secure three wins will be the one challenging City.

Who Will Finish Top At The End Of The Year?

It is hard to see the other two teams catching City the way they are playing but if they lose Kevin de Bruyne, it will be all to play for as he has been sensational this season so far. The pivotal games will be when City face Spurs and United in December and will go a long way to deciding the title. It is possible that Liverpool, Chelsea or Arsenal could catch up and win the title but it would take a dramatic change in form to turn their chances around.
