21st July: Sunday’s MLS Accumulator – 7/1

While teams from across Europe might be putting together their final preparations before their seasons get back underway, the MLS season is really starting to heat up. On that note, we here at Soccer News have found a handful of helpful tips that can boost your Sunday acca:

Sunday 21st July

BST 00:30 Toronto FC vs Houston Dynamo

Starting with Sunday’s hosts, after putting in yet another eye-catching display in their empathic 3-1 win at home to New York Red Bulls in midweek, Toronto find themselves enjoy a real resurge in the Eastern Conference. Now winning back-to-back appearances and reclaiming their spot in the play-offs, one man who has continued to spearhead the Reds’ top-seven charge is leading goalscorer, Alejandro Pozuelo. Once again converting from the spot against the Red Bulls in the early hours of Thursday, the 27-year-old has now recorded nine MLS goals this season, including four in his last five appearances. With Head Coach Greg Vanney seeing his side taste defeat just once at BMO Field since the start of May, the mood in Toronto’s camp is on a high. Given Houston’s continued struggles in the second half of the season, Pozuelo and co should be confident of extending their winning run. Arguably putting in their worst performance of the campaign in their 5-0 hammering away at Atlanta in midweek, the Dynamo’s have lost their last three matches on the bounce and their continued defensive issues will be a growing headache for Head Coach Wílmer Cabrera. Houston have conceded 11 goals on their three-match losing run and have shipped two or more goals in seven of their last eight outings.

Tip: Alejandro Pozuelo to score anytime @ 6/4

03:00 Vancouver Whitecaps vs San Jose Earthquakes

Starting with the Whitecaps, continuing on what has been a woeful MLS campaign this time around, Vancouver are arguably the biggest strugglers in America’s top-tier. Coming under increasing scrutiny after their embarrassing 4-0 hammering away at New England in midweek, Head Coach Marc Dos Santos has seen his side lose each of their last four MLS appearances and they now find themselves sat at the foot of the Western Conference. Along with now shipping 14 goals on their losing run, fans in British Columbia will also be growing more concerned by Sunday’s hosts continued issues in the final third. Holding the worst attacking record in the West, Vancouver have also now found the net just once in over 400 minutes of action. While the Whitecaps might be enduring a torrid run of form, San Jose are enjoying a recent rise up the West. Coming off the back of a very impressive 3-1 win away at LA Galaxy last time out, the Earthquakes have won four of their last five MLS matches and have tasted defeat just once since the 12th of May, an eight-match run.

Tip: San Jose Earthquakes win @ 23/20

03:00 Real Salt Lake vs Minnesota United

Starting with Sunday’s hosts, coming off the back of a season-best showing in their 4-0 win over Eastern Conference leaders Philadelphia, Real Salt Lake are enjoying quite the run of form. Now winning three of their last four MLS matchups and also securing a semi-final showdown in this year’s US Open Cup, they now sit in pole position to secure a top-seven finish and fans in Utah will be most impressed by their recent performances on home soil. Mike Petke’s men have won each of their last five MLS matches at the Rio Tinto Stadium, including a 2-1 win over defending champions Atlanta last month. As for the visitors, much like their hosts on Sunday, few in the Western Conference would have expected Minnesota’s stellar run of form. Also enjoying their own four-match winning run in America’s top-tier, a huge part of their own play-off push has come thanks to their form in the final third. Including a dominant 7-1 win over FC Cincinnati earlier in the month, Adrian Heath’s side have bagged 14 goals on that winning run and hold the second best-attacking record in the West. Two sides who are continuing to enjoy a bright run of form in the final third, we’re backing a lively encounter in Utah on Sunday.

Tip: Both teams to score @ 8/13
