24th February: Sunday’s Football Accumulator – 9/1

With a busy Sunday of footballing action coming from across Europe, we here at Soccer News have found a handful of helpful tips that can boost your weekend acca:

Sunday 24th February

BST 12:00 Luton Town vs Coventry

While many at Luton would have been worried by Nathan Jones’ departure to Stoke back in January, few would have expected their rise to the top of the League One table. Holding a seven-point buffer at the top of the table and in pole position to secure back to back promotions this season, the Hatters have now won their last six on the bounce and are unbeaten in their last 20 league appearances. Holding the best-attacking stats in League One, one man to watch on Sunday afternoon will be the divisions leading goalscorer in James Collins. Already bagging 19 goals this season, the 28-year-old has now scored eight goals in just his last six League One outings. Up against Coventry on Sunday, the inform striker should be looking to carry on his recent tally. While the Sky Blues have shown plenty of improvements, they have drastically struggled away from the Ricoh Arena. Mark Robins’ side have lost eight of their last 10 matches on the road and have recorded just two away clean sheets all season. Also finding the net in Luton’s 2-1 win over Coventry back in December, we’re backing another successful afternoon for Collins.

Tip: James Collins to score anytime @ 21/20

15:15 Atletico Madrid vs Villarreal

Picking up a 2-0 win over Juventus and putting one foot in the quarterfinals of this year’s Champions League, the mood in Diego Simeon’s camp couldn’t be any higher. Now chasing down a seven-point buffer to Barcelona in the race for the La Liga title, it will be Los Colchoneros’ ongoing defensive resolve most impressing the Argentinian boss. Comfortably holding the best defensive record in Spain’s top-tier, Saturday’s hosts have now kept a clean sheet in four of their last five matches at the Wanda Metropolitano. Enjoying a run of form that has seen them keep a clean sheet against the defending Serie A champions and go over 250 minutes without conceding a single goal, Atletico should be relishing Villarreal’s arrival on Sunday afternoon. While the Yellow Submarine have shown some improvements in the second half of the season, they still sit one point adrift of safety and relegation remains a real threat. It will undoubtedly be their recent form away from Estadio de la Cerámica giving Javier Calleja the biggest headache. Villarreal have failed to win any of their last eight matches on the road and more worrying, they have failed to register a single away goal in any of their last three matches on the bounce.

Tip: Home win to nil @ 5/4

16:30 Chelsea vs Manchester City

While Chelsea might have booked their spot in the knockout stages of this year’s Europa League, it doesn’t cover the mounting pressure on Maurizio Sarri. Now sat outside the top-four and many believing that the former Napoli boss is seeing his short tenure come to and end, it has been the Blues ongoing issues away from Stamford Bridge becoming the biggest concern. Losing their last four matches against Premier League opposition, Chelsea also slumped to a 6-0 loss away at the Etihad a fortnight ago. Conceding 12 goals in their last three matches on the road, Sarri should be expecting another very difficult afternoon. Pulling of a late dramatic comeback to pick up a 3-2 win over Schalke in the Champions League on Wednesday, Pep Guardiola’s side are now enjoying a five-match winning run across all competitions. Once again reclaiming their spot at the top of the Premier League table, the Sky Blues currently hold the best-attacking record of any team across Europe. One man who has really led their charge this season is the infrom Sergio Aguero. Bagging a hat-trick against Chelsea earlier in the month, the Argentina international has now scored 10 goals in just his last seven appearances.

Tip: Manchester City win and over 2.5 goals @ 5/4
