Central Coast Mariners stayed in the hunt for the A-League Premier’s Plate with a 1-0 win over Brisbane Roar on Sunday.

Bernie Ibini-Isei notched the only goal of the game in the 34th minute at Bluetongue Stadium, keeping the Mariners within five points of league-leaders Western Sydney, with two rounds of the regular season remaining.

Defeat leaves defending champions Brisbane seventh, two points outside the top six and in danger of missing out on the finals.

Later, bottom side Wellington Phoenix dented Perth Glory’s finals hopes, registering a 2-1 away win at nib Stadium.

Paul Ifill and Stein Huysegems netted in the first and second half respectively for the visitors from New Zealand, with Ryo Nagai pulling one back for the hosts on 76 minutes, but to no avail.

Perth, last season’s beaten grand finalists, are eight in the standings, three points back from sixth-placed Newcastle.
