Nasaf Qarshi will take slight advantage into the second leg of their AFC Cup semi-final tie with Al-Wahdat after a 1-0 win on Tuesday.
Bidding to become the first Uzbekistani club to make the tournament’s final, Nasaf were rewarded for their dominance in front of their home fans at Stadio Nasaf when Montenegrin Ivan Boskovic was brought down in the area by Basem Fat’hi shortly before half-time.
Jahongir Jiamurodov stepped up to convert the penalty past the Jordanian team’s goalkeeper Amer Shafia.
With both defences proving hard to break down in the second half, chances were at a premium.
When they did come, however, they were largely to the home side, with Kenja Turaev wasting the best opportunity when he fired straight at Shafia.
Bashar Bani Yaseen’s stoppage-time free-kick caused some temporary panic for Nasaf, but they held on to secure the vital win.
The second leg takes place at Al-Wahdat’s King Abdullah Stadium on October 18.
