Aguirre expects tough Champions League opener

Atletico Madrid coach Javier Aguirre expects a tough match against Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League tonight.

Aguirre said: “They have a lot of experience in the Champions League and they know how to use their advantage of playing at home.

“They play good football, they move the ball around well, they’re very effective in attack and they will make life complicated for us if we give the ball away.”

This season Atletico will return to the Champions League for the first time in 12 years.

Tomas Ujfalusi and John Heitinga looks set to miss the match against PSV, while Maxi Rodriguez is suspended for the match.

Aguirre added: “If we give a good first impression of ourselves, play good football to win the game, we would be taking a step towards topping the group, although there are still five games to go.

“But we would like to demonstrate that this team has the capacity and quality to be here.”
