N’Golo Kante scored a last-gasp equaliser as Saudi Pro League leaders Al-Ittihad salvaged a 1-1 draw against third-placed Al-Qadsiah on Thursday.

Kante arrived inside the box to meet former France team-mate Karim Benzema’s cross and guide it past goalkeeper Koen Casteels to rescue a point for the visitors in the sixth minute of second-half stoppage time.

Al-Qadsiah looked to have secured the three points when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang turned home a cut-back from Nahitan Nandez in the 91st minute.

But Kante’s late strike extended Al-Ittihad’s lead at the top of the standings to seven points for the timebeing, while Al-Qadsiah moved level on points with second-placed Al-Hilal.

Defending champions Al-Hilal, however, will have the chance to reduce the gap to the leaders when they face 14th-placed Al-Fayha on Friday.

Date Debrief: Leaders maintain excellent away record

Though they have now drawn three matches in a row, Al-Ittihad extended their streak of scoring away from home in the Saudi top flight to 16 games, courtesy of Kante’s late leveller.

Laurent Blanc’s side have scored 28 goals in total in those 16 games.

Al-Qadsiah, meanwhile, have still not won any of their nine home games against Al-Ittihad (D3 L5). Al-Ittihad are the only team Al-Qadsiah have faced eight or more times at home without a win in the league.

Aubameyang has now scored seven goals for Al-Qadsiah at home in the Pro League this season – more than any other player for the club in a single season.
