Alderweireld’s future in doubt after not making squad to face Juventus

To be frank with you, dear reader, not all transfer rumours are built on particularly solid foundations. Some are based on whispers, gossip, or mere speculation, and that is probably what this one falls under.

It is my duty to report it regardless however, because if Toby Alderweireld’s lack of inclusion in Tottenham’s Champions League squad to face Juventus does mean that he is going to leave in the summer, then you should know about it.

That’s according to the Telegraph anyway, who believe that the Belgian missing out here could signal the end of his career in North London. Alderweireld has been out for the long-term through injury, and only returned to fitness at the weekend, but to not be included in the squad at all is slightly puzzling.

The Belgian has been a stalwart in a Spurs defence that has been rock solid in the Premier League for the past couple of seasons, allowing them to go unbeaten at home during the previous campaign. The centre half should have no lack of suitors should he indeed desire a move away, but it remains to be seen whether that desire is genuine.
