It was a difficult end to the 2024/25 season for Real Madrid in general, having failed to win a single trophy, and particularly Rodrygo during the final months of Carlo Ancelotti’s tenure in the Santiago Bernabeu.
The situation unsurprisingly triggered alarm bells for a number of clubs. Liverpool were believed to be contemplating a potential swoop for the Brazilian if Mohamed Salah does not sign a new contract – which the Premier League’s Golden Boot winner has done since.
Arsenal are still being credited with very concrete interest as they seek to raise the quality of their attacking ranks, but newly appointed Real boss Xabi Alonso has made it perfectly clear he wants Rodrygo to stay put.
“I know what had happened,” Alonso said. “The end of the season wasn’t easy for him. He took some time to reset”.
“We’ve talked since day one, and I see him eager to contribute on the field and enjoy himself”.
