Amalfitano hoping for Euro call

Marseille’s Morgan Amalfitano hopes to be called up by Laurent Blanc for France’s Euro 2012 campaign, despite an indifferent season for his club.

The 27-year-old midfielder made his international debut for France in their 2-1 victory over Germany in February, but has since fallen off the radar with Marseille, enduring a poor run of form.

Amalfitano, who joined Didier Deschamps’ side on a free transfer from Lorient before the start of the season, hopes that has not impacted on his chances of being included in the preliminary squad.

“I must be efficient, I still have two games for me to show (my ability), we’ll see. My fingers are crossed,” the midfielder told the club’s official website.

“I never put the cart before the horse. I will not start now.”

Blanc named the first of two preliminary squads, comprised of foreign-based players, on Wednesday. The second, which will feature Ligue 1-based players, will be announced on May 15.

Marseille host Auxerre on Sunday in their final home game of the season at Stade Velodrome, and journey to Sochaux for their last match next weekend.
