Ancelotti flags PSG improvement

Paris Saint-Germain coach Carlo Ancelotti believes the Ligue 1 leaders still have to improve if they are to be successful this campaign.

Speaking after PSG’s 3-1 win over Evian on Saturday, Ancelotti was far from satisfied with his team’s performance after they fell behind in the first half before a Nene brace and a Kevin Gameiro strike helped them to the full three points,.

“It was a difficult match. In the first half, Evian played well and created a good few problems for us,” he said.

“Naturally, I think that we must play better, with more order, more confidence, and more rigour because we allowed Evian to get the ball forward too easily.”

“But even when you don’t play well you must win. We created more good chances in the second half. I changed the system because we needed to put more pressure on the midfield. I liked our second-half reaction, and the work put in by the players.”

Ancelotti was pleased with the display shown by deadline-day signing Thiago Motta, who joined PSG from Inter.

“Motta was good, he played with confidence and personality. But it was his first match for a new team. For a striker it is always important to score,” Ancelotti said.

PSG sit on top of the Ligue 1 table with a three-point lead over Montpellier.
