Nice president Jean-Pierre Rivere has confirmed that Kevin Anin is in a serious condition after being involved in a car crash on Monday.

The midfielder was a passenger in the vehicle as the driver fell asleep at the wheel, losing control, with the car overturning.

It was reported that the 26-year-old suffered serious spinal injuries and Rivere confirmed club officials are set to visit Anin at the Rouen University Hospital.

Ligue 1 clubs Olympique Lyonnais and Stade Rennais tweeted their well wishes on Wednesday, as well as Anin’s former employers Sochaux.

“I’m not here to announce a diagnosis, that is not my role,” Rivere told the Nice’s official website.

“The news is not reassuring. The only certainty is that the accident is serious, and the consequences on the life of Kevin will be huge.

“We will go to Rouen tomorrow to meet his family, and if possible send a nod to Kevin.”

Anin had also suffered from mental health problems during the previous campaign, during which he only managed to make 13 appearances.

Rivere confirmed that the midfielder had been in better spirits after the conclusion of the campaign and had been looking to starting afresh next term.

He added: “This season, while the club rallied to give him joy. He was smiling again. The end of the season was more difficult, but it was not serious and we were ready to give it a new impetus.

“It is not his career that concerns me, it is his health. The goal for us will be to help as long as possible.

“The club will be there. Kevin is one of ours.

“We are also very touched by the support shown by the world of football. In the state in which he finds himself, Kevin may not be aware of it. But we will continue to speak with his family and try to bring him a little support.”
