Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala are to make “changes to the budget parameters” of the club, suggesting some of their big earners may leave.

Since Suleyman Kerimov bought the club in 2011, he has financed a number of eye-catching signings, including Roberto Carlos and Samuel Eto’o.

However, amid reports that Rene Meulensteen had left his position of head coach after just over a month in charge, the club announced that they would look to bring through their own talent.

In a bid to ensure they meet financial fair play regulations, the Russian Premier League outfit will move away from big-money signings, admitting “the involvement of high-priced players has not been successful”.

“Changes to the budget parameters of the club (are) due to the current requirements related to UEFA and the need to comply with the financial regime of fair play,” the statement read.

“In this case they will not lead to significant distortions in the life of the team. Adjustment of personnel policy will be directed, first of all, in the long term.

“We are not talking about a mass (sale of) players or other steps. The club will honor all contractual obligations to the players.”

Since their takeover, the club have achieved a third-place finish in the Russian top flight, while also reaching the last 16 of the UEFA Europa League.
