Ferland Mendy of Olympique Lyon is being considered by Barcelona as they look to improve their options on the left defensive flank, according to Mundo Deportivo.
The Catalan giants have Jordi Alba as their undisputed first choice at left-back, and head coach Ernesto Valverde recently spoke about the difficulties he faces when he needs to find an alternative for the 29-year-old.
They have sent Marc Cucurella, the only suitable replacement, to SD Eibar on loan with an option to buy, and the youngster feels Valverde broke his promise to keep him in the squad for this season. He has impressed at his current club and his return to Camp Nou seems highly unlikely.
Mendy, 23, is a very good player and he does appear to suit Valverde’s need, but on the flip side, Barcelona and Lyon are set to meet head on next week in the round of 16 of this season’s Champions League, and the whole story might have been invented and released as a mind-game to try and cause unrest at the French club.
