Arsenal add Phil Jones to their defensive shopping list

A few days ago we reported that Premier League giants Arsenal were keen on Manchester United defender Chris Smalling, and it seems that Arsene Wenger has now added another Red Devil to his defensive shopping list. Phil Jones could also make the switch to North London, according to the Manchester Evening News.

Wenger did well to address the Gunners’ attacking issues in January, bringing in Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, but they remain the worst defensive team in the top seven of the Premier League, with 36 goals conceded in 27 games this season.

Jones has not been having a hugely successful season with Manchester United, despite the fact that Jose Mourinho’s side are the best defensive team in the league, and his calamitous own goal against Tottenham reminded the world that the England international is prone to a mistake.

He has remained a regular starter however, and there is still little doubt of his talent when on form, so he could make an excellent addition to Arsenal’s squad.
