Arsenal confident of Lemar deal

Arsenal remain confident of securing a deal for Monaco midfielder Thomas Lemar, according to the Daily Star.

Lemar looked set to secure a move to the Emirates Stadium on transfer deadline day only for a deal not to materialise as Alexis Sanchez’s proposed switch to Manchester City collapsed.

Arsene Wenger has said any bid for Lemar does not rest on Sanchez being sold though the Chilean, who is in the final year of his contract with the Gunners is likely to again be pursued in January.

Lemar is closing in on one hundred appearances for Monaco since signing from Caen in the summer of 2015 while he has scored nineteen goals – nine of which coming in the league last season as his side clinched the Ligue 1 title.

He has been capped seven times by France and got his first international goals as they beat the Netherlands 4-0 last Thursday.
