According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Chelsea are considering Xabi Alonso as a potential new head coach, though no final decision has been made at this stage.
Alonso, currently out of work after being dismissed by Real Madrid in January, is open to the role. The 44-year-old is also being linked with Liverpool, though some sources are adamant the Merseysiders aren’t planning to part ways with Arne Slot just yet.
Chelsea are also considering other candidates, including outgoing Bournemouth coach Andoni Iraola and Fulham’s Marco Silva.
Alonso’s recent tenure at Real was brief, lasting just seven months despite a strong start that included winning 10 of his first 11 La Liga matches. He left the club with the team in second place, four points behind Barcelona, shortly after losing the Supercopa de Espana final. Before Madrid, Alonso enjoyed success at Bayer Leverkusen, guiding them to their first Bundesliga title with an unbeaten domestic season and reaching the Europa League final.
Chelsea dismissed Rosenior in April after less than four months in charge, following Enzo Maresca’s earlier exit. Meanwhile, Iraola has confirmed he will leave Bournemouth at the end of the season, having impressed with his team’s attacking style since joining in 2023.
