(GSM) – Europa League champions Atletico Madrid have secured the services of Arsenal’s young midfielder Fran Merida.
The now 20-year-old joined Arsenal from Barcelona’s youth system in 2006 but has not been able to secure a regular spot in the first team, having made just 16 appearances in total.
In 2007-08, the Spaniard was loaned out to Real Sociedad to gain experience in the Primera Division.
Merida’s contract with Arsenal was due to expire on June 30th.
