Aubameyang, 23, has starred for his side in the current campaign, scoring 19 goals in 35 Ligue 1 matches for his club.

Saint Etienne have enjoyed an impressive season and sit sixth in the table, while they also won the League Cup.

The Gabon international edged Marseille defender Nicolas N’Koulou, of Cameroon, and Rennes midfielder Jonathan Pitroipa, of Burkina Faso, for the award.

A total of 68 French football journalists judged the candidates, with Aubameyang, who has been linked with a switch to Arsenal and Tottenham, rightly claiming the honour after a terrific season.

Aubameyang has two more chances to add to his goal tally in the Ligue 1 season, with Saint Etienne – who can still finish fourth, a position that would put them in the UEFA Europa League next campaign – to finish with fixtures against Marseille and Lille.
