Barca join race for Gundogan

Catalan daily Sport understands that Barcelona are weighing up summer bid for Borussia Dortmund midfield maestro Ilkay Gundogan.

The squad at Camp Nou is set to undergo major changes in the summer and the Catalans need high-profile signings if they are to reaffirm themselves as Europe’s top side.

According to Sport, Barcelona have made Borussia Dortmund star Ilkay Gundogan their number one target in the summer transfer window.

The Catalans officials have been impressed by the player’s performances in Champions League matches against Real Madrid and they are determined to add him to their ranks at the end of the current campaign.

Borussia Dortmund are obviously not interested in selling their prized asset, but they will have no say in the deal if Barcelona meet the €25 million release clause.

Ilkay Gundogan, 22, joined the Millionaires from Nurnberg two years ago and has since developed into one of the best Bundesliga midfielders.
